Shrewsbury is a historic town in Shropshire, famed for its black-and-white buildings, castle and abbey. The town was the birthplace of Charles Darwin, and offers a very good selection of shops, restaurants and bars, along with museums, galleries and new Theatre Severn. The River Severn is a focal point of the town, offering pleasant riverside walks and pleasure boat trips. From Shrewsbury it is easy to enjoy some of Shropshire’s best attractions, from the mansion and deer park at NT Attingham Park, to the ten museums at Ironbridge, the wonderful countryside around Church Stretton, or the medieval town of Ludlow.
Shrewsbury is famous for its various yearly events. One of the most notable events is the Shrewsbury Flower Show, held every August, which is among the biggest flower shows in the United Kingdom. Additionally, the town organizes multiple music festivals, including the Shrewsbury Folk Festival and the Shrewsbury International Music Festival.
